Mother Son Dance

A few weeks ago Carter and I attended our very first Mother/Son Dance.  Okay, so maybe I was way more excited than he was.  He was a little nervous about the dancing part, I am not sure what he was expecting as one night while we cuddling in bed he asks, “do you think there will be room on the stage for me to do my spinning dance” (his version of breakdancing on the floor).  I told him we would not be on stage and everyone would be on the dance floor together so there might not be a lot of room to spin on the floor.  He looked at me and said, “but that’s the only move I know”.  I think the poor kid thought he was going to have to dance on stage in front of everyone.  Once we cleared that up and he knew his buddies from school were going to be there too he was good to go.  They did play one slow song (Let Them Be Little, one of my favorites as a mom) near the end of the evening which nearly had every mother in tears as they danced with their sons.  It’s like in that moment I pictured myself dancing with him in 20 years at his wedding all grown up.  I was both proud and a little sad that it would all go by too fast.  So for now and always I will treasure memories like these.

Wolf Creek

We took an early Spring Break with our great friends to take the kiddos skiing for the very first time.  Well Chase didn’t ski this year but he sure had a great playing in the snow since we haven’t really seen much around here this year.  I must admit I have successfully been avoiding this trip for oh about 12 years now, skiing is not one of my favorite activities and driving 12 plus hours into the bitter cold and snow, not really my idea of a vacation.  However, Nate loves to ski and even though I didn’t want to admit it I knew Carter would too.  And love it he did, after two days of ski school with his pal Georgia he blew past me on the slopes.  I guess when you simply point your skis downhill and go you can pick some pretty good speed.  He did great and with the one exception of jumping off the ski lift a few moments early no accidents either, which is a good trip in my book.  The ski lift was my biggest fear, it is very high and very slow, which makes for a bad combination for curious little boys who don’t like to sit still, it made me very nervous.
